Do you feel like you are engulfed in darkness right now? Maybe you are stressed about your future or your children’s future. Maybe you are dealing with grief or separation from a loved one. Financial strain and medical issues could be piling up in your life. All coupled with the rapidly changing state of the world, it’s easy to feel lost and overwhelmed. If any of this sounds like you, I have some good news! You are in the right place for God to do a mighty work in your life!

In the Beginning

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
The earth was without form, and void;
and darkness was on the face of the deep.
And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. - Genesis 1:1-3

See that? Right from the start, God was hovering over the face of the waters in the darkness. He simply declared there to be light and then there was. Friend, God is with you in your time that seems dark. He will never leave you nor forsake you. He is there and is able to create something amazing for you. But I’d like to suggest that maybe it’s not really dark at all. John 1:5 says that the Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot comprehend it. Darkness cannot overcome God. Turn to Him. Call out. Wait on Him. He is faithful and will answer your cry.

In my distress I called upon the Lord,
And cried out to my God;
He heard my voice from His temple,
And my cry came before Him, even to His ears.
- Psalm 18:6

The Biggest Thing of All

Now it was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.
Then the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two.
And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice,
He said, “Father, ‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.’ ”
Having said this, He breathed His last. - Luke 23:44-46

It was in complete darkness that Jesus paid the ultimate price for you and me. He willingly gave up His life for us, so that we might have life through Him. He died in darkness so that we might have the Light of the World in us. It was in darkness and pain that the veil was torn, so that we can enter into a personal relationship with the Creator of the Universe, the Savior of our souls.

Therefore, having been justified by faith,
we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand,
and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations,
knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;
and perseverance, character; and character, hope.
Now hope does not disappoint,
because the love of God has been poured out
in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
-Romans 5:1-5

We can be the light in someone’s dark night. If you have made Jesus the Lord of your life, you have the Light of Life in you. Shine that light. Illuminate the dark. The darkness cannot overcome. If you are struggling and feel weighed down in the darkness, take joy! Jesus is with you. He is working for you.
