Here is another testimony from many years ago…

As I left the store, I started walking towards my car. I noticed a middle-aged lady who looked upset. She was frantically going through her purse and looked like she was about to cry. I looked away and got my car and shut the door. Trying to ignore the whole situation, I was about to turn on my car on when I heard “Stop!”

I was reminded of just a few days before when I was talking to a car service where I had membership. They mentioned that if I was with a friend or family member and they had a car problem, my benefits would be applicable to them, too. I put my stuff down and walked over to the lady and asked what was going on.  She told me she had locked her keys in her car and couldn’t get in touch with anybody to come help her.  I said, “Well, will you be my friend?” She kind of looked at me strange. “Will you be my friend? I think God put me here for you today.”

She looked at me and smiled and said, “Yes.”

I told her I would call my car service and they would come help her because she is my friend. “So, I’ll stay here with you, and they’ll help get your keys.”

As we waited, we chatted. I shared how recently I had discovered the real Jesus and what He had done in my life. I explained how I had turned my life back over to Him and that things were just amazing since then.  I was also praying and believing for my husband to be saved, too. She was so excited because she also was a Christian. We sat there and chatted back and forth. Before the car service people came, she asked me for my address because she wanted to mail me a book, she thought would help me. I was a little bit hesitant, but I gave her my address anyway and within a couple of days, I had a book in my mailbox. It was “The Power of a Praying Wife,” from Stormie OMartian. This led to me also reading “When He doesn’t Believe: Help and Encouragement for Women who Feel Alone in their Faith,” by Nancy Kennedy.

These books did me so much good and gave me the things that I needed to read and hear. It was pretty intense at that time, but these books gave me so much help and I learned how to pray properly for my husband and live as a light.  God did a work on my own heart through these books. The wisdom I gleaned from them were pieces of the journey leading to my husband giving his life to Jesus and my entire family being changed.

You know, when this whole God encounter started, I thought I was going to be helping and blessing some other lady. In reality, I was the one who was the most blessed by the entire thing. Originally, I wanted to ignore the lady and go about my day, as I too often do. I would have missed out on this huge blessing if I had done so.  I wonder how many other blessings I have missed by not being obedient and stopping for the one God has put in my path that day?

Isn’t it just like God, though? We think we are doing something so great and end up being the one who is ministered to instead? We can’t outgive God. We can’t out bless God. He is just too good!

Not only did the lady get her keys unlocked that day, but I also received some keys. These were the keys of Godly Wisdom and Encouragement. God knows what we need and makes sure we get it.

Today I would like to pass it on and give out one of each these books- The Power of a Praying Wife and When He doesn’t Believe. Comment and I will use the Google Random Number Generator to determine who the two people are that will receive each book. Entries will be closed on Wednesday, January 26th at 12:00 PM EST.
