We just never know how God will use our story, which is part of His story, to reach someone. If you follow Jesus, you have a powerful and important story to share with the world!

Be encouraged to share your story of how God has renewed and redeemed you.

Welcome back to Renewed and Redeemed. This is episode 20. Today, I wanted to talk to you about sharing your story. As you probably know, that’s what Renewed and Redeemed is all about is people sharing their stories of how God has renewed and redeemed their lives.

The thing is, is that everyone that’s given their life to Christ, has a story

and not only is it just your story, but it’s also largely part of God’s story because it’s God that worked in you. That makes your story powerful. And that makes your story important. And that also means that you should be sharing that story with others. Because you have no idea who it will impact and how God will use it.

A while back, I guess it was many years ago. I had recently rededicated my life to God and just really started following Him. And I was attending a large church. I didn’t really know many people yet. After the church service, they had a dinner. So, I looked for somebody to sit next to, and there was someone that had a couple of kids about the same age as mine. So, I figured I would strike up a conversation. And during that conversation. I felt led to share my story, my testimony, and my commitment to running after God.

And in all honesty, I assumed that the lady that I was sharing my story with was a follower of Jesus because, I don’t know, she was at church. And I didn’t really think much of it. I never saw her again at church, there was several different services. So, I just assumed that we were going to different services. That’s why I had missed her. A couple of weeks went by, and I ran into this person in the store. She said to me, I have to share something with you. And I was like, oh, and I was just so happy to see her.

And she told me that. She hadn’t been coming to that church for a little while, longer than I think that I had. But she was mostly going because she just felt like her children needed some kind of good character influences.

And that she was really having a hard time believing what she was hearing there. And she just felt like when she looked around, the everybody seemed so perfect, and she thought that’s what I was all about. And then when I shared my story and my struggles with her, and I was just real and honest.

Vulnerable with her, I guess you could say. She realized that I didn’t have it all together. And that I still came to God, and He accepted me. And she could see how He had changed my life from what I had shared with her. And she said that when she went home that night, she decided to give her life to the Lord.

‘because she related through my story through my humanity. Through my vulnerability.

God is strong in our weakness. It’s through our weakness that His glory, His amazingness His love shines. And I think that’s what she saw and this situation.

I think that a lot of times If we try to hide any kind of flaws or struggles that we’re doing, others, a disservice as well as ourselves.

I think puts people off a little bit.

I don’t think that we need to be ashamed of our weaknesses. We should share our struggles with people so they can see how great God is and the work that He’s continuing to do in our life.

I am not a big proponent of using scripts where you memorize word for word, what to say to people to try to get them saved. They can be used as tools, but I think that if we stifle letting Holy Spirit speak through us and just stick to a script, that a lot is lost.

People need to see our humanity. Jesus did not use a script. He was in relationship with people, and it was through those relationships and Him being human that drew people to Him and i believe it’s the same way for us. I see God being personal and relational with people and using different expressions of love to reach people. And I think that that’s important. For us also, because it’s not just about getting somebody to repeat some words after us. It’s about a life changing experience.

And my experience, people kind of brush it off when you just automatically start referencing the Bible, their eyes just kind of glazed over and they just put some walls up. But the thing is that people can’t argue with your own story. Like, if you just share the gospel through how God worked in your own life, through your own story, how can people argue with that? And the thing is When you think about Jesus, do you have a bond with Him more when He did like these amazing miracles. You’re like, oh yeah. I’m like that too. Or do you have a bigger bond and feel a closest to Him when you see Him despised by people. It’s the humanity because we can relate to that. We can remember. Oh yeah. I know how that feels when people haven’t liked me or thought wrong things about me, just like they did about Jesus. We have that connection. And that same type of thing goes for other people. When we share our stories, they have a connection to that story because it’s humanity. And can connect with that.

And our own stories are living gospel. We can share the gospel through our own story.

It’s important to share our stories with each other, but it’s equally important that we are led by the Spirit.

Sometimes we share different parts of different stories that will relate to the person. And if we are tuned in to Holy Spirit, He will guide us and tell us what we need to share. I know that that’s what happened that day when I shared with that person, I had met at church. And many times, since then.

When I shared my story with this lady, I wasn’t trying to get her saved because honestly, I thought she already was. So, I think that’s another lesson right there is just follow the promptings of Holy Spirit and share with people far and wide. You don’t know how it’s going to impact somebody, and you may not know forever or weeks, like, I didn’t know.

I had no idea.

Don’t be stingy with who you share your story with because it’s not, like I said, it’s not just your story. It’s part of God’s bigger picture of God’s story.

And I understand that maybe not everyone wants to come share their story on my podcast or share their story through blog posts. But even more importantly, I think it’s vital that you share those stories with the people that you come in contact with on a daily basis. Those people that are in your inner circle, those people that you work with or that you come across when you’re out and about in the community.

Of course, I love to have you on my podcast, and I’d love to have you share a blog post because I think that the more opportunities, we can share God’s greatness and His goodness and His love and His mercy and His grace, the better.

There are a lot of tools out there that you can use to become more comfortable and kind of get an outline of how to share your story or share the gospel with someone. And I have no problem with using tools. I think it’s very important to have the guidance of Holy Spirit and to not just make things like a formula. Let yourself be guided and your words be influenced by the leading of what Holy Spirit tells you to say and do. I use tools. As just basically an outline or a guide. And I think they’re a great way to become more comfortable.

And booster confidence so that you are more bold and going out there and sharing your story and the gospel.

There’s a tool that I’ve begun using called three circles. And it’s great. If you can do it visually, some people are really visual, so it’s great for that. But I also just incorporate it into everyday conversations I have with people. And it’s just kind of like a mental checklist for myself, to remember everything I want to include. I’m sharing the gospel through my own story. And I use it in everyday conversation. Somebody wouldn’t even know I was using it and it changes by who the person I’m speaking with and what I include.

I will put a link to that into the show notes. If you’re interested. There’s a lot of different people sharing examples of it on YouTube. So, feel free to search for that some more.

My story, I was living a broken, wounded life. I tried many ways to fix my life myself. I tried to be extra good. I try to do good things.

I tried and religion. That didn’t work I try to accomplish amazing things. I tried to learn my way out of it. I tried medications. I tried therapy, but nothing would fix it. Nothing would change it.

I still would go back to these broken ways. My life was still hurting and wounded. And I was just I was not happy and not fulfilled. And nothing would change that until. One day I met Jesus for who He really is. I found out that He loves me, even in my brokenness that I didn’t have to be perfect for Him to love me. I didn’t have to be perfect for Him to come to me.

He came to earth in human form and experienced all of humanness, the good, the bad, the ugly. But then he chose to live a perfect sinless life and die for us. Then three days later, He rose again. He paid the price for my life to be healed. He paid the price for my sins to be forgiven. He paid the price by giving His own life so that I could be in right relationship with God and not be stuck in this fallen, broken world.

Because that was God’s original design was for us to live in right relationship with Him and not have pain and sickness and all of the things that we are experiencing in our broken world now. That was not God’s original design. He sent His Son so that didn’t have to stay in that brokenness.

I decided to bow my knee to Him and say, I will give my life to you. I will make you King of my life. I had to repent of trying to do things on my own, had to repent for not following Him. I had to repent for many things. Then through that, He forgave me and all of this shame and guilt and heaviness that I didn’t even realize I was carrying at the time, came off.

And it changed my life forever. It gave me a deep joy. That I had never experienced before. Gave me hope because I knew that with Him, all things were possible. But because of that, I couldn’t keep it in. I started going around and telling everybody about what He did in my life. And people that saw me knew something had changed just by how I looked that I wasn’t the same old person before.

And that’s our job now is when He redeems us, when He renews us, is to go tell others so that we can help them get pulled out of that wounded, hurtful world that they’re living in, help them with all of their baggage, that they don’t even know that they’re carrying.

Are you living in that broken wounded world, trying to find your way out? Or are you in the arms of the Father? Redeemed renewed? Or have you gone back into that broken, hurting world, trying to help other people come out? I encourage you to share the gospel through your story. That might be the thing that someone needs to grab your hand and let you introduce them to Jesus.

God, I thank you for giving us a story. I thank you for letting us be a part of Your story. I thank you for loving us enough to send your Son to die for us.

I thank you, that you were just going to give every person that’s listening to this today, boldness to share their story with someone. We are going to have ears to hear Holy Spirit guide us and lead us to people that need to hear our story. I thank you that you give us the opportunity to partner with you to see people rescued from the pain of the world.

God, we praise you. We thank you for your goodness. We thank you for your love. We thank you for your righteousness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
